The week of November 6, 2017, the Winterguard Team held auditions for the coming season. They were held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the main gym on Monday and Wednesday. Winterguard is an activity where the participants dance and spin flags, rifles, and sabres. The auditionees learned a dance sequence and a short flag sequence on Monday night. Then on Wednesday, they practiced what they had previously learned and learned a few new things as well.

This season will be their coach, Brittany Tate’s, fourth year working with the school. “I know what the theme is this season, but we are not telling anyone yet,” said Tate.

The Winterguard will practice every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. They will also have various camp days throughout the season. They take months to carefully learn a show and practice until it looks clean.

“My favorite memory was winning first place at championships last year,” senior and team captain Melanie Chasteen said. This is Chasteen’s fourth year participating in Winterguard. “I am looking forward to getting to know all the rookies this year,” she said.
